As some of you know, I’ve been shaving my head as a dear friend goes through chemo, as a show of solidarity and support. Today was her chemo day, so a head shave day for me. One of the side benefits has been that in doing something for someone else, it has helped my spirits immensely. No time to wallow in self-pity when you’re reaching out a helping hand, or head in this case.
It’s a simple truth but one we often forget, wrapped up in our own lives. Doing something good will make you feel good. So go do it! It’s not hard, and the return is much greater than the investment, and who doesn’t love a sure deal?
In my case, I’ve found some other plusses in having my head shaved. May I present:
No hair? Don’t care!
Save on shampoo, and conditioner too!
In a rush, don’t have to brush,
A lint roller over the top will do.
Forget the blow dry, and primping and styling
And wondering if your hair looks beguiling
Wipe a damp facecloth on top of your head,
Washed and styled, just like that, right out of bed
The best part about this most charitable act?
If you don’t like it, your hair will grow back!
