Supper Snaps

Happy New Year!

New Year’s Day supper: roast chicken sandwich with gravy on a peasant bun. No sides, as we were saving room for cake.

Food pictures, they’re everywhere. Arguably social media’s favourite photographic subject, food shows up in our Facebook feeds, Twitter streams, and blogs upon blogs. Usually these shots are tight close-ups, exquisitely prepared and flawlessly styled–“food porn”.
We share meals from great restaurants, recipes that we’re proud of, food that looks almost too good to eat, chosen for aesthetics over taste because of course, you can’t taste it online.
So I got to thinking and decided I’m going to do something a little different. I’m going to post whatever I have for dinner. Sometimes that’ll be an exotic new recipe, sometimes leftovers. A daily post would be ideal, because it’s a way to form a better blogging routine, and maybe a way to motivate me to get out of the cooking ruts that we all find ourselves in. And if you feel like sharing your supper snaps with me, so much the better!

  1. For over a year, I cooked and photographed carrot recipes for The Carrot ( as a way of helping create and maintain visibility on social networks while they were getting their co-op up and running. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the pictures turned out. I hadn’t been very active the last couple of months and as ministry is taking me out of the northend of Halifax in a couple of weeks, I formally ended my association with them yesterday. It was hard to press ‘send’ at the end of my email to them. Looking forward to your pictures!

    1. I remember seeing some of those pictures, it is a loss for them that you’ll be moving on 😦 But, a great blessing for your new flock in Spryfield. With the food pics, I have a couple of goals, and we’ll see where it goes. Thanks for stopping by!
